What does Autumn mean to you?

Posted on Sep 23rd, 2008 by Jayne : contemplative activist Jayne
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 23, 2008:

Great question for this equinox day. Fall Equinox has been the beginning of the new year (or cycle) for me for almost 20 years. This was part of the spiritual tradition I practiced and I became attuned to this internally. It's a time (like for those who celebrate the new year on Jan. 1) to take an assessment on how things are going and look to what is calling from within to be birthed. These stirrings from within are supported by the new energy externally - the cold air, change... All this just hit Idaho two days ago - yeah!!! My atoms are stirred up - more energy is available - I feel like I'm waking up after a long sleep.

What does it mean to be a saint?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 28, 2008:

I worked with a teacher for 17 years who said that we are all destined to become saints. I interpreted that to mean fully realized bodhisattvas - someone who is dedicated to inner awakening and to responding to the suffering of others.

At the shelter I tell the team members (resident volunteers) that the work they are engaged in is 'saint training'. And after a particularly difficult situation arises and they handle it well, I  smile and tell them that they've received some extra saint points. I have one who just shakes his head after a hard night and says 'are we there yet?'  I ask him 'there?'  'Are we saints yet?'  I tell him, 'maybe next week'. (a running joke)
